The statistics on the number of people that suffer from back pain is very comprehensive and almost 80% of us will suffer from back pain at some time in out lives.
Back pain of course can cover a multitude of different complaints ranging from ligament and muscle damage to nerve and spinal disc injuries. All of these complaints are incredibly debilitating and can be extremely painful and stop us doing many daily activities from housework and gardening to simple tasks such as simply trying to put our shoes on.
All of this can become increasingly frustrating and drive us further into wondering if there is any treatment that can help.
Some people may be more comfortable in approaching their GP first, but in all honesty a GPs knowledge and ability to treat a problem is extremely limited. Other therapies such as massage and physiotherapy can help, but the best option is to go and see someone trained in dealing with spinal problems.
One who is going to treat you and the root cause of the injury and not just the muscles. Now of course you could go and see a chiropractor but in my opinion the majority of chiros are what we call in the trade “whack and crack”, meaning that they treat 3-4 people at a time and just hook them up to a machine to “warm them up”, then come back and simply manipulate and crack the spine.
Osteopathy is not like this. You will be fully treated by your therapist for the whole of the treatment session, where they will work on soft tissue and spinal areas alike. Making sure that if the spine does need a “crack” then it is done once all of the supporting structures have been loosened up and the body is ready to be manipulated.
Generally, people will get better over a course of treatments, and there is no one quick fix. That being said unless your back pain is something that you have been suffering from for many years, most complaints should be clear within 12 weeks.
You do not need to be in pain for all of that time and in most cases the pain can be alleviated pretty quickly, it’s just a case of going to your sessions and doing the self help exercises that all osteopaths will give you to do (if they don’t then they’re not a very good osteopath).
Be warned though, if you do nothing your pain has a 80% chance of returning within the next year, so do your self and your spine a favour by seeking out a professional and respected Osteopath in your area.

I remember coming round on a stretcher on the way out of Olympia and a gaggle of schoolgirls exclaiming ‘he isn’t dead’ with a degree of disappointment. I had passed out from a sudden back spasm into a large plastic waste bin. There followed one of my first episodes in hospital near Olympia; an ambulance drive down to the edge of Surrey; the ambulance men feeling they had left the known world at Putney; an ambulance man dislocating a thumb getting me upstairs once we got home and then a stay in hospital in Guildford.
Another Hospital
The next memorable occasion was in Cornwall when we were living in Hayle. I had one of my turns and was lying on the floor unable to move. A locum came round and gave me shot of something which only served to stop my normal bodily functions and I had to be taken, painfully, up to the surgery where a catheter was inserted so that I could release some of the build-up of urine. Only it didn’t as the catheter turned out to be faulty so I was led out to an ambulance, with my trousers round my ankles, for a short spell in hospital in Penzance. This is where I realised that you cannot be squeamish about your body as dear old gentlemen (I wasn’t far off becoming one myself) walked around the ward with their hospital gowns revealing all behind.
Various Treatments
I had tried all the various treatments with varying and not lasting success. Most of it cost money to not feel much better. On bad mornings you walked around like Quasimodo and often I froze at the breakfast table and had to wait until the spasm had passed before I could move. Sometimes I felt better if I strapped myself into the car. I think I tried everything to ease the sheer pain it caused. And, of course, nobody could see anything unless you had a spasm in a shop, and I am not sure they were convinced even then. You see it is one of those complaints that does not have any outward sign of proof, just you shambling gait and the odd ouch.
Conclusion
But I have come to realise that you really know your own body best and, provided you are careful and heed the warning signs there is no reason to end up immobile on the floor or in a waste bin for that matter. If you can concentrate on keeping the back muscles strong you will have much less of a problem, and don’t make awkward moves you know you shouldn’t.

The most effective natural pain relief for back pain needs to be supportive of your body’s best efforts. Your body has enormous capacity to heal itself and everything it tries to do needs to be supported.
One of the most common mistakes people make is to want instant relief from back pain. While this is perfectly understandable, it is not usually in your long term interest, health wise.
One of the best actions to take is to rest. It is only with rest that your body can heal itself. To keep going, constantly moving about and perhaps even continue to work, will only exacerbate many back problems.
However, rest may not be the only solution to help restore balance and harmony to your back. And few people can afford to take long stretches off work or family commitments.
Pain relief can be dangerous, as it allows you to continue to do the very things which will prevent healing. The inflammatory process is the body’s way of healing. Suppressing this natural process will slow (or even prevent) healing occurring.
What are the alternatives?
Natural pain relief for back pain, if it is a good one, will move you towards totally resolving the problem. One of the main reasons for back pain is the tightness of muscles. Your muscles tense up to protect the damaged area. They serve a vital function. These muscles should only be loosened when the damaged area is being resolved. Otherwise, they will simply tighten up again.
Appropriate and professional homeopathic treatment targets the damaged area and gently supports your body in its healing process. Because the source or the cause is being addressed, the muscles naturally loosen and the pain disappears.
Often you can feel immediate relief, with complete resolution over the coming days, weeks or months. How long it takes to be completely resolved will depend on many factors, including the length of time you have had the problem, the natural of the problem, other treatments you have had, how appropriate the homeopathic medicine is for you and your problem, and so on.
In my experience, healing is complete and no other treatment is required.?

Is your job a pain in the back? Many jobs are. Unfortunately, one cannot quit jobs unless one wants to experience sleeping in the streets. Physical exertion is one of the most imminent factors of back pain. Inadequate stress on the muscles and stress on the lower spinal discs are both pain work related symptoms.
Emotional stress might even be the root to your lower back problems. It is thought that stress sends false signals to the brain. When a person performs repetitive motions such as typing, standing and running, the brain will send warning signs in the form of pain, as a way of disguising the boredom behind such activities. This article is not written by or checked for accuracy by a medical doctor. Please consult with your physician for treatment options.
There are several tips here that might just ease your back pain:
1. Acupuncture: Acupuncture will calm the nervous system and will slow down the pain signal transmittance.
2. Music therapy: Modern music is not the best choice in this case; soothing instrumental music is a better choice to create a tranquil atmosphere. The reasoning behind this therapy is that the mind will be depressed and relaxing music helps the brain to quit paying attention to chronic pains.
3. Capsaicin cream: This particular cream’s main ingredient is chilli. Chilli creates a chemical that depletes the substance that transmits pain.
4. Maintain a healthy weight: This might seem irrelevant to your job, but excessive weight puts on additional burden and exerts pressure on the lower spine, which in turn aggravates the fragile spinal discs and causes back pains.
5. Magnesium: Having the right daily dosage reduces muscle spasms. Magnesium can be found in dairy products and reduces pain symptoms in back pain patients.
6. Practice Yoga: It helps develop flexibility and strengthens the core, two important elements in preventing back pains.
7. Lay on your back with pillows under your knees and your hips and knees bent. This is said to be the best position to relief back pain. Resting longer than one or two days may cause weakening of the muscles.
8. Heating pads: It’s fast, efficient, relatively cheap and relaxes painful muscle spasms.
9. Over-the-counter medicines: These include Tylenol, Naproxen and Ibuprofen.
If none of the above therapies have relieved your back pain, then you might need to consult your doctor. Every person is unique and hence has different needs therefore your back pain may require a different treatment than the most popular ones mentioned above. This article is not written by or checked for accuracy by a medical doctor. Please consult with your physician for treatment options.
